Thai Buddhist amulets (phra khrueang)

What it is

Pressed images of the Buddha and famous monks (Phra Somdej, Phra Rod, Phra Nang Phaya, Luang Pho Thuad) made of sacred powder, clay, herbs or metal and consecrated in temple rituals. Their meanings are highly specific: invulnerability, business luck or charm.

Making yours

2–5 cm. Mix powder, plaster and herbs and press into a mould. Arched, rectangular or lotus shapes, often in a gold or steel waterproof case.
