What it is

Ancient etched agate beads with eyes, lines and waves, said to be found in the earth as insect-like gifts of the gods. The number of “eyes” carries meaning, and prized old examples fetch fortunes.

Making yours

3–6 cm elongated barrel of agate, etched with soda-alkali paste and fired to draw white designs on dark stone.
